The story

Turn the big gift on Christmas morning into an indoor treasure hunt. Hand your kids the Start Card under the tree and watch them race from room to room, solving rhyming riddles until they find the final present.

Made for ages 4-10, with three ways to play in one download, so non-readers, early readers and older siblings can all join in:

  • Ages 4-6, picture clue cards: 28 cards with a big picture of each hiding spot, so non-readers can find the next spot by themselves
  • Ages 6-10, rhyming riddle cards: 28 riddle cards, plus 12 no-cut fold cards that need no scissors or envelopes
  • Ages 8-10, bonus secret decoder: collect the gold corner letters along the trail and crack the secret final hiding place with the cipher wheel or the no-cut lookup table

Easy for the grown-up

The Host Guide has a ready-made 12-clue Hiding Plan: you hide clue 1 where the Start Card points, clue 2 where clue 1 points, and the gift at the last spot. Want your own spots, a short 8-clue hunt or a 20-clue marathon? Use the blank Custom Trail Planner, the full 28-spot answer key and four write-your-own cards.

21 of the 28 spots work in any home or apartment (no stairs, fireplace, garage or yard needed). No answers are printed on the front of the riddle cards, so nobody can read ahead, and 28 fold-over helper hints give a nudge when someone gets stuck.

The trail and decoder logic are generated and checked with our own software, so every clue chain links up with no dead ends. The illustrations were made with AI image tools from our own prompts and art direction; the rhymes were drafted with AI help and edited by us.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Print what you need

    Pick picture cards (ages 4-6), riddle cards or the no-cut fold cards (ages 6-10) and print only those pages.

  2. Step 2

    Hide the clues

    Follow the 12-clue Hiding Plan in the Host Guide (about 10 minutes) and hide the gift at the last spot.

  3. Step 3

    Follow the riddles

    Hand over the Start Card. Every clue leads to the next spot; a fold-over helper hint gives a nudge if needed.

  4. Step 4

    Find the present!

    The last clue leads to the gift. Big kids can crack the bonus secret decoder on the way.

Which ages is it for?

Ages 4-10: picture cards for non-readers (4-6), rhyming riddle cards for readers (6-10) and a bonus secret decoder for ages 8-10. Siblings can play together with the team card.

Do I need a big house?

21 of the 28 hiding spots work in any home or apartment: no stairs, fireplace, garage or yard needed. Seven more spots are optional.

How long does it take?

About 20-35 minutes of play, and about 10 minutes to hide the clues with the ready-made plan. You can make the trail anywhere from 8 to 28 clues long.

Do I need scissors?

No. The 12 no-cut fold cards are simply folded in half, and the decoder has a no-cut lookup table.

Can I use my own hiding spots?

Yes. There are four blank write-your-own cards and a Custom Trail Planner in the Host Guide.

Can the kids read ahead?

No answers are printed on the front of the riddle cards. The hiding spots are only in the grown-up's Hiding Plan.
