67 days to Christmas

Santa's Workshop escape room is almost here: take a peek

Eight bakery clues, four woodland suspects and a locked Pantry Vault to crack before 9:00 AM.

The story

It's Christmas Eve morning at the Honeycomb Hearth Bakery in Honey Hollow Village, and the annual festival judging starts at 9:00 AM sharp. When Mallow the bear baker arrives at dawn, the brass Pantry Vault is locked tight, flour footprints trail across the floorboards and Grandma's Golden Gingerbread Recipe Card is missing. Head Elf Pip calls in your junior detectives to team up with Detective Finn, Clover and Hazel to crack the eight-letter lock, clear the innocent woodland suspects and rescue the recipe in time.

Made for ages 8-12, every clue is an in-world object from the bakery: Pip's case file letter, Finn's floor plan blueprint, a Honey Hollow Telegraph Co. telegram with a cut-out Brass Spice Wheel (or a no-cut Decoder Table), Hazel's pantry clipboard, a smudged frosting stencil, Mallow's tasting scale recipe card, a six-compartment cookie tin, the baker's shift cork board and a forensic suspect dossier.

Eight bakery clues in two acts, eight secret letters

  1. The Flour Footprint Trail: trace the single open path through a 16x16 bakery blueprint from the start to the flour sack
  2. The Delivery Telegram: crack the morning cipher message with the cut-out Brass Spice Wheel or the no-cut Decoder Table
  3. The Pantry Inventory: search a 12x12 letter grid on Hazel's clipboard for ten baking items to spot the one that's missing
  4. The Frosting Stencil: decode a 5x5 coordinate grid where three squares have been smudged with flour
  5. The Tasting Scale: solve multi-step picture equations on Mallow's recipe card to weigh each holiday treat
  6. The Cookie Tin Grid: complete a 6x6 picture sudoku inside Hazel's festival cookie tin
  7. The Baker's Shift Log: use indirect order-ticket clues on the shift board to work out who baked what
  8. The Suspect Dossier: cross-check three forensic lab strips against four woodland suspects to unmask the culprit

Once all eight secret letters and the culprit's name are entered on the Pantry Vault page, players unlock the vault, color a 10x10 grid to reveal the Rescued Gingerbread Recipe picture (with Grandma's recipe epilogue) and earn their Master Bakery Detective Badges.

Easy to host at the table or around the house

Play in Zero-Cut Tabletop Mode (about 5 minutes of setup, no scissors needed) using the no-cut Decoder Table and upside-down hint cards, or run an Envelope Hunt (about 15-20 minutes of setup) with hidden clue envelopes, printable envelope labels and an optional locked-box finale. The 15-page Host Guide includes the hiding plan, a timing guide, three levels of hints per puzzle and a full visual answer key. No answers are printed on the player pages.

Every puzzle is generated and checked with our own puzzle software, so each clue has one unique solution and all eight letters spell the secret word. The illustrations were made with AI image tools from our own prompts and art direction, then edited and laid out by us; the story text was drafted with AI help and edited by us.

Questions about this kit

How is this different from Santa's Workshop?

Santa's Workshop is made for ages 7-10 with six puzzles (45-60 minutes). The Stolen Gingerbread Recipe is a step up for ages 8-12, with eight two-act detective puzzles—including a smudged coordinate stencil, multi-step math, a 6x6 picture sudoku, indirect logic clues and a forensic suspect dossier—set in Honey Hollow's bakery.

Do I need scissors or envelopes?

No. In Zero-Cut Tabletop Mode you use the no-cut Decoder Table on page 6 and read the upside-down hint cards uncut. If you want a full room hunt, Envelope Hunt Mode uses the cut-out Brass Spice Wheel, fold-over hint cards and printable envelope labels.

How long does it take?

About 40-55 minutes of play. Setup takes about 5 minutes in Zero-Cut Tabletop Mode or 15-20 minutes in Envelope Hunt Mode.

What if the kids get stuck on a harder clue?

Every clue has three progressive hints (a small nudge, a big help and an almost-there hint) printed both in the Host Guide and on the 24 player hint cards, so kids can get help without spoiling the secret letter.

Can one child play solo, or can a whole class play?

Yes. It works for 1-6 players at home, or you can print one packet per team of 3-5 detectives for a classroom or holiday party.

Where are the answers?

All solutions and solved puzzle pictures are in the separate 15-page Host Guide & Answer Key. No answers appear on the player pages.
